Side Note

Yesterday the woman who teaches me yoga at the gym came through my line at Cruisin. She ordered a 20 oz. breve mocha with extra chocolate and extra whip. If you are not familiar with coffee, you may not understand how surprising it is for a yoga instructor, who practices organic eating and cleansing, to order this drink.

People's coffee drinks actually DO tell about them. Right now I'm a Double-Tall Almond Latte. Tell me your drink, I'll analyze you.

Whoa. 20 oz breve mocha w/extra chocolate and extra/ whip = grooosssss. Though I guess it's no worse than ice cream.

I drink cadav, but here are some of my favorites:
-Single tall dry capp
-Single tall vanilla latte (sometimes soy, sometimes nonfat milk, but usually with delicious, fatty whole)
-Soy chai
-Cafe au lait (sp?), which is half drip half steamed milk

So. What do these say about me? Hm?

Well you are probably better at analyzing drinks than I am Walden, since you've been a barista longer. But here we go: usually people who order vanilla latte and soy chai tend to be the more laid back customers (the kind who don't drum their fingers urgently and harass you for "two skinny straws"), they also are usually younger women (I can't remember the last time I made a soy chai for a man.) Dry Capps are for true espresso lovers. Single shot drinks are for people who don't need the caffeine kick, so you must sleep well and have enough energy all on your own. Cafe aux lait speaks to your barista training more than your personality. Hows that for a short recap?

I really like getting a triple-shot iced frappuccino with 1% milk, a pump of caramel, three skinny straws, a pump of hazelnut, whip cream, and chocolate sprinkles.

Triple grande non-fat hazelnut caramel frappuccino with the works. Hmm. If this really were your drink, I would say you are high maintenance and not likely to be a good tipper. Complicated customers never are, ha! Since you are really a black drip, I will say you are easy to please and direct.

How fun is this? I have always wondered what people thought about what I ordered.

I like to get either a triple-grande, non-fat vanilla latte, or a double tall dry capp, unless I am counting pennies, in that case I like to order the venti black drip.

Well, I guess I already know what a dry cap and a black drip means... so I am excited to see what my latte says about me!

Ooh! Triple grande says that you like your caffeine but you're not greedy. You are probably on-the go or have a busy day and that's why you like the extra shot. Vanilla is a classic latte flavor and like with KJW, I usually find that these customers are the friendliest and most easy-going to deal with. The extra shot combined with the non-fat milk means you value coffee for the caffeine more than as a sweet treat.

My current drink of choice is purified water. In the states, however . . . I almost always get straight black coffee, no cream no sugar. It´s usually my favorite, but when I give in to my sugar fiend self, I get a Grande iced white chocolate soy mocha with 2 pumps raspberry. Or a soy chai with peppermint (mmm, it tastes like christmas).

I just want to say that all of these interpretations are based on my short personal experience as a barista, so who knows how accurate they are... Sars, it's pretty obvious you are a barista from your drink order, when you say things like "Caramel melted with the shots" I know you are a professional coffee drinker. People who drink americanos in general are often coffee snobs. ;) Flavored americanos always make me think that the drinker is either 1.) lactose intolerant or 2.) Going for a poor-man's latte. What's with the extra ice though...?

Courtney, your drinks are two extremes - black drip vs. flavored mochas with gourmet chocolate - I'd wager the drip is for the caffeine kick and the flavored mocha is a special treat/reward for a hard day... I like making flavored mochas because these drinkers (not skimping on the extras) are generally not likely to skimp on the tip.... yay!
